Our Pastor

Rev. Kelvin J. McCormick, Pastor

Reverend Kelvin J. McCormick was born in Baltimore, Maryland and educated in public schools. He accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior at an early age while attending Wayland Baptist Church in Baltimore, Maryland. Reverend McCormick moved to Winston-Salem, North Carolina to further his education and earned an Associated of Applied Science Degree in Computer Engineering Technology and an Associated of Applied Science Degree in Electronics Engineering Technology from Forsyth Technical Community College in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He has been employed by AT&T for forty-five years and is married to the former Michele Denise Linton (twenty-seven years).

Reverend McCormick has been a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church since 1989. He felt for many years that his true calling was a ministry of helps. For many years he chose to use his God given abilities to serve the Lord and the church in several different Ministries including the Usher Board, Sunday School (Youth Teacher, Assistance Superintendent), Deacon Board, Finance Ministry, Audio-Video Ministry, HOPE Lunches, and Broadcast Ministry. Reverend McCormick always felt that the preaching of the Gospel is the highest calling of all and expected that it would require his full attention and dedication requiring him to trade one form of Christian service to accept the high call. After serving in other ministries for over thirty-five years, Reverend McCormick accepted the call to preach The Gospel of Jesus Christ in August of 2024. He delivered his initial message in September 2024 entitled “I Am Overwhelmed but Not Overcome” and was licensed by Mount Olive Baptist Church in September of 2024. Reverend McCormick was ordained by the Rowan Baptist Association in July of 2025.

God in His grace has saved me, in His plan He has called me, then for His purpose He has elevated me from the pew to the pulpit, to preach His Word and teach His people. I believe that we must prepare and equip ourselves for the task, but it is God alone that gives us the grace, anointing, power and the sufficiency to do His will. “Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think anything as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God. Who hath also made us able ministers of the New Testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life” (II Corinthians 3:5-6)
